Why is America so obsessed with the Oscars?

More than 40 million people across America are gearing up to watch the biggest awards show of the year: The Oscars.  According to Nielsen research, the academy Awards is the most watched entertainment program on television and among all programs, second only to the NFL playoff games.

Why is America so obsessed with the Oscars?  It's the shiny, bling.  Bling is the most important part of the show, of course, and we're not talking about the trophies; it's all about the red carpet.  A stars clothes, hair and jewelry can cost nearly $20 million.  Yes, for one star.  One of the most memorable Oscar's outfits in 2014 was Cate Blanchett decked out in $18 million Chopard earrings with 52 opals and strutting her stuff in a $100,000 gown by Armani Prive.   When it comes to glitz and glamour, you won't catch the Hollywood stars skimping on primping and priming.

Look for Felicity Jones to be wearing a black onyx necklace with a diamond pave' clasp and a Zodiac charm.

For Julianne Moore, look for a hand-chained Carnelian precious stone necklace with a pave' heart and the first letter of her children.

For Reese Witherspon, look for her wearing a camera charm representing her as a producer of Gone Girl.

Rosamund Pike will be wearing a pave diamond piece that will include a cello charm since she played it as a child.

Marion Cotillard will be wearing a charm representing the Eiffel Tower that celebrates her French heritage. Charms that personalize who you are will be popular on the red carpet.

Other trends that will be popular on the red carpet this year will be diamond ear cuffs and climbers, classic pearls featuring Tahitian pearls, colorful gemstones including emeralds or rubies, large drop earrings, classic white diamonds in statement necklaces along with cuff bangles.
